Passive Voice

Dalam bahasa Inggris terdapat kalimat aktif dan kalimat pasif layaknya bahasa Indonesia.
Pada kalimat aktif (active sentence) subjek melakukan pekerjaan terhadap objek. Sementara pada kalimat pasif (Passive sentence) objek dilakui pekerjaan oleh subjek. Kalimat pasif
(passive voice) adalah kebalikan dari kalimat aktif (active). Passive voice dibentuk dari kalimat aktif yang memiliki objek.

Pada bahasa Inggris bentuk pasif ditandai dengan to be + V3. To be dalam setiap kalimat

berbeda-beda, tergantung tenses kalimat tersebut.

1. Present simple

Rumus: S + am/is/are + V3 + O + Adv.

Contoh:

Active :

Somebody holds a ceremony.

Passive :

A ceremony is held by somebody.

2. Past simple

Rumus: S + was/were + V3 + O + Adv.

Contoh:

Active :

The King of Majapahit built the castle.

Passive :

The castle was built by the King of Majapahit.

Contoh lain:

- The village was destroyed by a great disaster.

- The boat was kicked by Sangkuriang.

3. Simple Perfect

Rumus: S + has/have + been + V3 + O + Adv

Contoh:

Active:

I have finished the assignment.

Passive:

The assignment has been finished by meatau

The assignment has been finished. (tanpa objek)

4. Simple Future

Rumus: S + will / shall + be + V3 + O + Adv

Contoh:

Active:

My mother will cook the fried chicken for me.

Passive:

The fried chicken will be cooked for me

atau

The fried chicken will be cooked for me by my mother.

Passive voice juga bisa dibentuk dari tenses lainnya, yang akan dipelajari pada tingkatan yang

lebih tinggi. Perbedaannya hanya terletak pada to be kalimat tersebut.

Ingat, dalam membuat passive voice, to be harus sesuai dengan jenis kalimat (tensesnya).

Example:
Mom cooks the fried rice.

Answer: The fried rice is cooked by Mom.

Contoh Paragraph :

The room was entered by Dr. Wheeler, at which point words of advice regarding active verbs were spoken by him¹. It was decided by the rebellious class that the final paper of the semester would be written entirely in passive voice². Remarks were made by a distraught Wheeler; protests were made by the students³. A seat was gotten out of by one student⁴. His desk was stood upon by him, and a vow was made by him that he would never write another active sentence⁵. He was challenged to a duel. Blood was shed. Butts were kicked. Lives were lost. Shrieks could be heard. The halls of Henderson were run down by people who were concerned⁶. When the room was entered by them, carnage was seen by them⁷. When Wheeler was found standing over the bodies, only these words were spoken by him⁸: "Mistakes were made."

Kata Passive Voice Yang Terkandung :

1.     The room was entered by Dr. Wheeler, at which point words of advic regarding active verbs were spoken by him

S + was/were + V3 + O + Adv.
